Please get in touch with the Centre to find out more about these sessions – such as how long they run for and what you can expect from them. Some sessions will need to be pre-booked. To do so, please call or visit and our Centre staff can help you choose the best place to get started.

Mindfulness 8-week Course

Mindfulness is increasingly used in healthcare as an effective mind-body based approach to help people manage physical and psychological challenges. Many research studies suggest that people who have learnt to practice mindfulness discover that their wellbeing improves, they have greater management of their emotions and a better quality of life.

This Mindfulness course is only available once you have completed the Introduction to Mindfulness course.

This group is for men who have been diagnosed with cancer. The group will involve 60 minutes of facilitated group support with our psychologist, Mark, followed by a 60 minute exercise session with our personal trainer, Carolyn. 

This group is suitable for those who are newly diagnosed, going through treatment and those who have completed treatment. This is a drop-in group so you do not need to book to attend.

Mindfulness is a way of helping you develop your skills in concentration and focusing on the here and now. It aims to increase your awareness of how you think, feel and cope in life. When developing this skill an opening can be created to learn to deal with stress differently.

Our mindfulness practice sessions usually run the third Wednesday of each month.

The expressive art  group offers a way to  explore your feelings – particularly those which can be difficult to put into words – no skill in art or experience is required.

Concentrating on creating art can help you slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Your unconscious mind can express feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that you might struggle to put into words. And by doing that you may begin to understand more what you’re feeling, which can help to build your confidence.

All sessions are tailored to people with cancer and are flexible to suit your own needs. They can also provide a chance to talk to people going through a similar experience to you.

Evidence shows that exercise offers many benefits, from reducing fatigue and improving your wellness and physical fitness, to building your confidence during and after cancer treatment.

Bereavement Support

This six-week course is intended for those who have lost a loved one to cancer. In order to fully engage with and benefit from the course, we would advise to join this course if your bereavement has occurred more than three months ago. 

The course aims to explore emotional responses to bereavement, as well as discussing different ideas for coping at this difficult time. 

The course will run over six sessions with a break between session 4 & 5 (no session on April 9th).

Nutrition workshop

Eating well during and after cancer treatment can make a real difference to the way you feel. Our nutrition workshops introduce you to types of food that are particularly good for you – and tasty ways to enjoy them.

The workshops also cover treatment-related eating challenges, and offer the chance to ask questions about your own diet.

You will be given a booklet on eating well, a selection of inspiring recipes and recommendations for websites to help you eat healthy, delicious meals.

The workshops are open to people with cancer and their families and friends. Booking is necessary.

Secondary breast cancer support group

If you have had breast cancer and have been told that it's come back or spread to other areas of the body, this will be refferred to as, secondary breast cancer. You might hear healthcare care professionals refer to this as metastatic breast cancer.

This support group offers an opportunity to talk to other women who are in a similar situation to you, and to share experiences.

It's a safe space to express emotions you might not want to share with your friends and family. You might learn from those a little way ahead of you in their journey and develop your own strategies for coping.

This is a drop-in session and will run on the 4th Monday of every month (with the exception of April 30th), this group is facilitated by a clinical nurse specialist and a cancer support specialist.

Nordic Walking for beginners

Nordic Walking for beginners

Drop in

Nordic Walking is a great way for people to get their entire body moving and it helps to improve overall fitness. It is particularly good for upper body strength.

With the Thames Path so close to the Centre our Nordic Walkers head there for the hour-long class. Walkers have found it a really enjoyable experience, both for health and wellbeing but also as an informal peer support session.

This session is for beginners, no experience is needed, wear comfortable walking shoes/trainers, poles are provided.
