The four fixed walls that form the building’s skeleton will be made from earth coloured ceramics, rooting the centre to the ground. Arranged in a concertina like effect, alternate faces will be either glazed or matte.
The ability to glaze the ceramics also presents exciting opportunities regarding the way-finding function of these walls. The “bricks” that compose the walls have been shaped and finished to reveal a rich earthy rough finish when looked at from the garden, but to provide subtle garden reflections when viewed from with the centre.
The ceramic walls will bring the outside garden to the inside blurring the boundaries of what is interior and exterior.
In March we successfully completed a mock up of the ceramic walls on the site.
