Where Now? is a six-week course for anyone who has finished their cancer treatment, as well as their friends and family. It offers skills and techniques to support you through this transition period and beyond.

Where Now? helps you manage the physical, emotional and practical issues you may face after your treatment has finished, through a series of group sessions each lasting around three hours. Each session is led by a Cancer Support Specialist and a Clinical Psychologist and offers the chance to explore key issues and concerns alongside other people in a similar situation.

Discussions during the course focus on the following topics:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Managing post-treatment challenges
  • Partnering with your medical team
  • Keeping up momentum

Expressive art is a way to explore your feelings – particularly those which can be difficult to put into words – with no skill or experience required.

Concentrating on creating art can help you slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Your unconscious mind can express feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that you might struggle to put into words. And by doing that you may begin to understand more what you’re feeling, which can help to build your confidence.

At Maggie’s you can speak to a specialist Benefits Advisor to get advice on receiving all the benefits you are entitled to.

If you, or someone you care for, is living with cancer, our Benefits Advisors can help you complete forms and also access any additional support that you might be eligible for, such as parking permits.

We know that living with cancer can have a real impact on your finances, through lost income and increased costs such as heating and travel. Our Benefits Advisors are here to help you understand which benefits are available to you and to help with the application process.

Creative writing is a way to explore thoughts, ideas and emotions that you might otherwise find difficult to express, with no skill or experience required.

The creative writing exercises can help you to slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Feelings that you might find difficult to put into words can be more easily expressed through metaphors and stories. As a process, writing can help you to learn to understand your feelings, which may help to build your confidence.

Maggie’s Centres offer a range of exercise options, including yoga, tai chi and walking groups.

All sessions are tailored to people with cancer and are flexible to suit your own needs. They can also provide a chance to talk to people going through a similar experience to you.

Evidence shows that exercise offers many benefits, from reducing fatigue and improving your wellness and physical fitness, to building your confidence during and after cancer treatment.

Friends and Family is a six-week course for anyone caring for a person with cancer.

The Friends and Family course helps you learn more about cancer, its treatment and likely side effects. You can also learn about your role as a carer, and the impact cancer might have on your life.

The course covers practical things like eating well and how to take care of yourself and the person you’re caring for, as well as the emotional effects cancer might have on you. The course also explores relaxation techniques that can help you manage stress.

Nordic Walking is a unique form of exercise which uses more than 90% of the body’s muscles. It began in Finland, where skiers were looking for a summertime version of cross-country skiing, but has grown in popularity and now has more than ten million participants across the world.

What is it that makes it so perfect for Maggie’s visitors? 

  • Rebuild your confidence and stamina after cancer treatment
  • Reduce fatigue during and after treatment
  • Combat weight gain
  • Help with low mood and depression
