Alex's story

Alex was 35 and the father of two very young children when he was diagnosed with a rare cancer usually starting in the appendix and then affecting the abdomen in 2015. He needed a major operation and then spent a frustrating month recovering in hospital. Despite the support of his family and friends, he felt very upset and that’s when he went to Maggie’s.

“It was great to have a cancer support specialist to talk to. She reassured me that it was completely normal to feel upset and after a few visits I felt ready to get on with my life again. The service Maggie’s provides is invaluable.”

Alex ran the London Marathon 2019 to raise funds for Maggie’s as a thank-you for the support he’d received.

How your money helps

Your support means so much to the people affected by cancer who come to our Centres each day. It costs £590,000 a year to keep a Maggie's Centre open, and the money you raise will help your Maggie's Centre continue to provide emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
