Overseas Challenges

Tuesday 18 December 2018 - Wednesday 1 January 2020

Have you always dreamed of scaling Everest or trekking the Great Wall of China? Perhaps you are looking for a bit of inspiration for that next big adventure? Taking part in one of these global adventures can be life changing for you and the money you raise can be life changing for those that use Maggie's.

If you are feeling inspired then why not consider some of the ideas below and become an international adventurer all in aid of Maggie's.

Take on an Arctic Challenge!

The perfect antidote to a cold, wet British winter is a cold, dry Arctic adventure! On this unique challenge you will head to Rovaniemi in Finland and spend three days trekking into the Arctic Circle. This Arctic trek is not for the faint hearted. You’ll be pulling all of your own kit in a pulk, battling against the elements, and sleeping in tents. Regardless, we consistently receive feedback that it’s “the best challenge ever”. So who are we to disagree?
You’ll make friends for life, take home memories that no pictures can impart, and forever impress folk with the line “when I was in the Arctic…”

This adventure is available via our preferred supplier Breaking Strain events as an own place trek.

The Cuban Revolution Cycle Challenge!

Why not take on a cycling challenge while visiting the land of cigars, revolution, Che Guevara and vintage Chevrolets. The Cuban cycle travels from the cultural capital Havana to the exotic Caribbean. Your 10 days in the saddle will see you cycling 350kms through beautiful countryside, passing fruit orchards, tree-lined avenues and buildings left untouched for more than half a century. Outside of Havana vehicles are rare and there is a strong biking culture – so expect to fit right in! This 10 day challenging cycle is available from our preferred supplier Charity Challenge on a self funding option only

Take on the Marathon in the heart of Barcelona!

The Barcelona Marathon is one of the most popular in Europe.  The course takes you through the centre of the city and includes main landmarks such as the Camp Nou (the home of Barcelona FC), Sagrada Familia, the Parc de Cuitdadella and finishing a short distance from La Rambla.

With very few hills or inclines, the course is very flat and fast, and suits first time runners, or those going for a PB!

We are currently able to offer a very small amount of charity places at the Barcelona Marathon. Please get in touch for more information.

We’ve listed some of our most popular overseas challenges below but you’ll find a huge array of events you can take part in for Maggie’s here.

If any of these ideas have inspired you or you have an overseas adventure of your own in mind and would like to support Maggie's please contact us via email at events@maggiescentres.org.

Although we do not currently offer any charity places at oversea events we will be happy to talk to you regarding any challenge you are considering and will support you on your journey.

All international trips come with their own risks and should only be undertaken with the guidance of professionals.

How your money helps

Your support means so much to the people affected by cancer who come to our Centres each day. It costs £590,000 a year to keep a Maggie's Centre open, and the money you raise will help your Maggie's Centre continue to provide emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
