1. What is Maggie's Culture Crawl?

Maggie’s Culture Crawls are evening walks in cities across the UK full of fun, food and culture. Walkers have exclusive access to many architectural gems which are often not available to the public. Along the route there are a series of talented performers and delicious food and drink to enjoy. Maggie’s Culture Crawl is one of our largest events and raises essential funds which help us to run our Centres.

2. When is Maggie's Culture Crawl?

Maggie’s Culture Crawls are taking place in cities across the UK from June to October. Please check the cities webpage for more details.

3. How long is the route?

Depending on the city, routes vary from 6 miles to 10 miles.

4. Is the event accessible to wheelchair users?

Due to the uneven terrain on the Culture Crawl routes, the event is not always suitable for wheelchair users without assistance. If you are a wheelchair user taking part, please call 0300 123 1801 for further information.

5. What support can I expect from Maggie’s?

Once you register, you will receive a welcome email with a link to download your fundraising pack containing ideas and suggestions to help you start your fundraising. We’ll be in touch with fundraising and training tips and advice via our newsletters. Before the event we will send you instructions and details for the night. Our team of volunteers on the night of the event will ensure that you have a great experience and they will support you every step of the way! Please let us know if you have any special requirements and the team will ensure that we can accommodate them where possible

6. What is the registration fee?

The registration fees range from £15 to £40 depending on the city and when you register. For specific details please check the specific page for the event you're taking part in.

7. Why is there a registration fee?

Your registration fee is used to cover the cost of organising the event.

8. Can children take part?

For most events, walkers must be a minimum of 16 years old to take part in the event. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult who will be fully responsible for the under-18-year-old. We let children over 13 take part in Culture Crawl London and Oxford. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

9. Is my registration fee refundable?

The registration fee is non-refundable. Please contact your Maggie’s Culture Crawl team should you feel you have a special circumstance on 0300 123 1801.


15. I’m not sure that I can raise the sponsorship target. It’s a lot of money!

We understand that fundraising can be daunting, especially if you haven’t done it before. But it's worth it and easy once you get started. It's an incredible night to be part of and, most importantly, the funds help us to continue running Maggie’s Centres across the UK, supporting thousands of people affected by cancer. We’re here to help you in any way that we can. Whether you're a fundraising novice or a practiced guru, there will be something in our fundraising pack to help you in your fundraising efforts. If you’re still struggling after that, we’re here to help with advice and support and just ask you to raise as much as you possibly can. 11. How much money do I need to raise?

As much as possible. Depending on the city, we ask each of our Culture Crawl walkers to raise between £50 and £150. All the money you raise goes towards us providing free support for people with cancer and their loved ones. We’re here to help you every step of the way. 13. Where can I get a paper sponsorship form?

Once you register you will receive a welcome email which will contain a link to our sponsorship form. Please contact us if you need us to send this to you again.

12. How do I set up a fundraising page?

When you register you will be given a unique link for the Culture Crawl you are walking in. Alternatively please follow the instructions below: 1. Go to www.justgiving.com/maggies 2. Click on ‘Create Your Page’ 3. Select ‘Maggie's Culture Crawl’ from our list of events 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete your page

10. My employer offers match giving. How do I send this to you?

Once you have sent in all your fundraising money, we will send you a thank you letter, confirming that you took part in Maggie's Culture Crawl and confirming the amount of money that you have raised. Pass this to your employer, along with one of our paying in slips and your employer will then use this to generate a payment to Maggie's. This money will then be added to your fundraising and we will send you a final thank you with the new total.

17. When do I need to send in my sponsorship money by?

The deadline for getting your fundraising to us for Culture Crawl is two months after the event.

14. I haven’t received a fundraising pack, what should I do?

You should receive a fundraising pack within a week of registering. If you haven’t, please contact your Maggie’s Culture Crawl team on 0300 123 1801 and we will email you another one.

18. Where does the money go?

By taking on your challenge and raising funds for Maggie’s Centres you are helping us to continue to provide our vital services, free of charge, to everyone who needs it. £37 could pay for a visit to Maggie's, allowing us to provide information and emotional and psychological support. £106 could pay for a nutrition workshop at a Maggie's Centre. £354 could pay for Stress Management Support at a Maggie's Centre for a week.

19. Why should I use an online fundraising page?

By setting up your own online fundraising page on JustGiving you can get the support of your friends, family and colleagues all over the country by simply emailing them your personal link. It’s the easiest way to raise sponsorship and a great idea because: 1. It’s personal and fun 2. People often donate more and can do so securely, quickly and easily with a credit or debit card 3. The money is transferred directly into our bank account 4. Your supporters can leave a message on your page or remain anonymous 5. We can reclaim Gift Aid (25p in every pound) from the Government on all donations made on your page by UK taxpayers, at no extra cost to you

On the night

20. What should I wear?

We advise that you wear comfortable sports clothes, look at the weather reports and come prepared. Remember that temperatures can drop considerably at night time, so bring lots of extra layers and snacks to keep you going through the night. What you wear is essential to your comfort and enjoyment during the event. Below are some guidelines: Comfortable walking shoes or trainers (ones you have trained on concrete in already and know are comfortable) Comfortable socks (ones you have road tested with the shoes you’ll be wearing) Waterproof Walking trousers Please wear your Maggie's Culture Crawl T-shirt on the night to ensure access to venues and refreshments.

21. What happens if I need to pull out during the event?

We have professional medical and support staff on the route and at some of our buildings. Should you decide to pull out or are required to pull out due to medical reasons, please contact the number given to you on your event route map and we will ensure that you are looked after. Whether you should continue to fundraise will be decided based on the individual circumstances.

22. What will I be provided with on the night?

We will provide each walker with a Maggie’s Culture Crawl t-shirt (which will allow you access to all of the buildings on the route) on the night. Refreshments will be provided at most buildings but we do advise to bring additional snacks. You’ll also get a medal at the finish line.

23. Where can I leave my belongings?

Unfortunately we do not have the facility to keep your belongings for you. Please ensure that you pack what you need into a backpack or carrier bag that you can take with you on the route or arrange to have a friend or family members to support you with this and meet you at the finish.


24. I can’t do the walk. Can I volunteer instead?

Yes. Volunteers are a hugely important part of the night so we'd really appreciate your support. We don't have our volunteer registration open yet, so send us an email at culturecrawl@maggiescentres.org stating which event you’d like to assist at and we'll send you more information and the form for you to fill in.

26. What happens if I need to pull out before the event date?

The registration fee is non-refundable but there will be no obligation to raise the minimum sponsorship if you have pulled out in advance of the event. However, we appreciate any support of fundraising you’re still able to do.
